ILM IDEAS | RURAL GIRLS EDUCATION CENTER

CDF has been working in the Education sector in three Districts namely Layyah, Jhang and Rawalpindi. In District Layyah, 28 Government schools have thus far been adopted and provided with basic infrastructural facilities and trained teachers, while initiating focused interventions aimed at teacher training. An active school management committee has also been established in each school. With the technical and financial support of various donors, these educational facilities have been upgraded in terms of better infrastructure and building, provision of furniture and teaching materials, stationary and books for students, as well as through the hiring of extra teachers, who have been provided requisite training. All these activities were led by the School Management Committees

As a primary objective, CDF’s Education interventions are aimed at the poorest households, who usually send their children to government schools. CDF has provided uniforms to deserving children in these schools in addition to undertaking renovation of school buildings and provided training to teachers. Under CDF’s umbrella a total of 2,547 students have been enrolled in the 28 adopted schools, directly benefiting population of 32,407. School management committee have been strengthened and trained to work as key players to plan, implement and lead project interventions. In all targeted schools, there has been a sufficient improvement in terms of both facilities and quality of education.

The CDF interventions have resulted in provision of better facilities and overall improvement in learning environment especially for female students in its program supported schools. As a result, the enrollment rate in these schools has significantly increased to 30%.
